MAGACT© PM Actuators Summary Technical Specification
IPEC Engineering have MAGACT© PM Actuator designs covering a range from 1000N to 7000N closed latch force. The Actuators are suitable for operating MV VCBs up to a breaking capacity rating of up to 40kA. For 'special' designs outside this range refer to IPEC for PM Actuator Development Contracts.
IPEC Engineering's MAGACT© PM Actuators have been optimally designed to drive three-phase VCBs through a single actuator drive. Through on-going Research & Development work, in conjunction with Manchester University in the UK, IPEC Engineering can offer highly reliable single-coil actuator designs which benefit from high efficiency and low energy to carry out CO and O-CO operations. The low energy Actuators provide the opportunity to minimise associated power drive systems such as local Capacitors and Dc/Dc Converters to provide further cost-savings to the manufacturer.

General:
For 3 Phase VCB an actuator of approx. latch force of between 60% and 70% of the combined recommended contact loads (closed force (max) per phase) from the 3x Vacuum Interrupters is typically used.
Coil operating details:
DC Voltage - up to 100V
Actuator Coil Close Current - 30A to 60A to Close depending on rating, typically 10A to Open
Note: Coil voltage supply is provided by a DC/DC converter, therefore applied (station battery) voltage can be varied easily for optimisation.
Physical Size - Examples:
4000N Three Phase Actuator- (150mm Diameter x 150mm long)
7000N Three Phase Actuator - (175mm Diameter x 210mm long)
Temperature Range:
-25 Degrees C to + 70 Degrees C
Permanent Magnet Stability:
Estimated loss 1-2% over 20 years operation. Note: actuator operation does not de-magnetise the magnet.
Corrosion:
All steel parts are zinc plate and passivate finish with magnets epoxy coated to withstand corrosion.
Life:
MAGACT PM Actuators are designed for a minimum of 30,000 operations.
Electronic Controller - MAGACT© PM Actuator Electronic Controller (part number IPEC 100-60-C1)
The actuator requires a control system to monitor and control the coil supply, interface with protection relays and provide status and auxiliary contact information. The IPEC 100-60-C1 Electronic Controller device provides all these requirements and more through a central, fuse-blown logic controller which will controls and monitors the VCB. The controller incorporates a comprehensive monitoring system for protection, indication and programmable reclose functions.
